GOLEM stands for Goal-Oriented Linguistic Emulation of Mind. GOLEM Theory (GT) is a complete rewriting of AI orthodoxy using the analytical rather than the synthetic AI paradigm. It is a relatively recent (since 2010) body of research whose ambit claim is that it contains the specification of a machine which works in the same way that animal and human minds do. 

GT starts with the uncontroversial[1] tenet that brains control bodies. That is, brains construct plans for evolutionarily optimal behaviours - Figure Alpha.1. 

The GOLEM diagram proper consists of a pair of duplex, counterflow hierarchical data structures, which model the information processing in each of a typical vertebrate's cerebral hemisphere - Figure Alpha.2. The 'bottom-up' hierarchy represents the cognitive functions of the parietal and temporal lobes, while the 'top-down' hierarchy represents the cognitive functions of the limbic and frontal lobes [2].

Each GT neuron when considered in isolation has a strictly feedforward mode of operation. Information enters the cell at the dendrites, is summed and thresholded according to the current electrical state of the cell membrane, and exits along the axon at a speed which depends on its degree of myelination. GT neurons behave locally in a feedforward manner, but form global feedback loops. It is this global feedback which gives the duplex hierarchies their capacity for counterflow functionality. Each hierarchy has a coherence threshold, which separates subjective spaces from objective states. For example, the input hierarchy is thresholded into consciously experienced, synchronous images above and sub-conscious asynchronous events below. Similarly, the output hierarchy is thresholded into voluntary goals above and involuntary instructions below, echoing the computer science distinction between declarative and imperative programming paradigms- Figure Alpha.3.

Brains form subjective spaces ('minds') which capitulate objective states ('mechanisms'). The computational basis of this capitulation is that of a supervisory 'Animaton' (typically a synchronous FSA called a Moore machine) which exist in a privileged level above a set of subordinate 'Automata' (typically asynchronous FSA's called Mealy machines) - see Figure Alpha.4.

The next step in the theory's development is the critical one, for it contains some mental manipulations which resemble a magic trick. Please be assured that no such subterfuge is involved. Rather, we merely request some suspension of disbelief.
